Wheel Ceramic Coating in Jacksonville, FL

Brake dust rinses off instead of baking on.

A hydrophobic, heat-resistant layer on the face and the barrel of all four wheels, so contamination sits on the coating rather than bonding to the finish.

  • Face and Barrel
  • All Four Wheels
  • Heat Resistant
  • Included on Geex Elite

What it actually is

The half of the wheel nobody coats.

Brake dust is hot metal. It lands, it cools, and it bonds. A coating gives it nothing to bond to — but only on the surfaces the coating actually reached, which is why the barrel matters as much as the face.

XPEL Fusion Plus wheel and caliper ceramic coating being applied by hand to a BMW M wheel at Detail Geex in Jacksonville

The XPEL ceramic coating bonds at a molecular level and is built to take the heat a wheel sees, which a paint coating is not. It also lifts the depth and gloss of the finish — most people notice that before they notice how much easier the wheels are to clean.

Hydrophobic

Water and road film sheet off rather than sitting. Most of what lands on a coated wheel leaves with the next rinse.

Heat resistant

Wheels get hot in a way paint never does. This is a coating built for that, not a paint coating applied to a wheel.

Stops etching and corrosion

Hot brake dust cannot bond to the finish, so it does not sit there holding moisture and pitting the surface.

Adds depth and gloss

The finish reads deeper and sharper afterwards. On a dark or machined wheel the difference is obvious in daylight.

Coverage

All four wheels, both sides.

There is no flat price on this one, because a 21-inch multi-spoke and a plain five-spoke are very different amounts of work.

01

What gets coated

  • All four wheels, not just the fronts
  • The full face — spokes, lip and any machined surface
  • The barrel and inner rim, wheels off the car
  • Valve areas and lug seats cleaned before anything is applied
02

What it stops

  • Hot brake dust bonding to the finish
  • Etching and staining from road chemicals
  • Corrosion and pitting where dust holds moisture
  • The need for harsh acid wheel cleaners
03

How it is quoted

  • Wheel size and how complex the spoke design is
  • Condition — heavily contaminated wheels need decontaminating first
  • Whether the wheels come off, which they should
  • Included as wheels-off coverage in Geex Elite

Quoted from the actual wheels. If they are already pitted or the finish has been damaged by acid cleaners, a coating will not undo that — we will tell you what it will and will not fix before anything is booked.

On the car or off it

One of these gets the barrel.

Coating a wheel without taking it off covers the half that was already easy to clean and misses the half that causes the problems.

Wheels off

The way it should be done
The barrel gets coated, which is where the dust actually collects.
Properly decontaminated front and back before anything is applied.
Arches and hardware are reachable while the wheel is off.
Included in Geex Elite as part of the coating package.
Takes longer, and costs more because of it.
vs

Wheels on

Faster, and half a job
Quicker and cheaper if the face is all you care about.
The barrel is neither cleaned properly nor coated.
Brake dust keeps bonding on the side you cannot see.
Corrosion still starts on the inner rim.
The wheel is only half protected, for most of the price.

Doing the whole car? Wheels-off coating is already part of the Geex Elite ceramic package rather than an extra line on the invoice.

The process

Off the car, cleaned both sides, then coated.

A coating is only as good as the surface under it, and half that surface is facing the brake caliper.

01 / Off

Wheels come off the car

All four, so the barrel and inner rim are actually reachable. Arches get cleaned while the wheel is out of the way.

02 / Decontaminate

Face and barrel, front and back

Acid-free chemicals lift the bonded brake dust and road film. Anything left behind is what the coating bonds to instead of the wheel.

03 / Dry and prep

Then a panel wipe

The wheel has to be completely dry and free of any residue. Coating over a cleaner film is how a coating fails in a month.

04 / Coat and cure

Both sides, then back on

The coating goes on face and barrel, levels, and cures before the wheels are refitted and torqued. You get aftercare for the first week.

Questions

What people ask before they book.

If yours is not here, call the shop. We would rather answer it than have you guess.

Do the wheels really have to come off?

To coat the barrel, yes. You can coat a face with the wheels on, but the inner rim is where most of the brake dust ends up and where corrosion starts, so that is the half worth having.

Will I still have to clean my wheels?

Yes, but with soap and water instead of a chemical. Most of what lands on a coated wheel releases under a normal rinse, which is the point.

Can you coat wheels that are already pitted or peeling?

A coating goes over what is there — it does not repair a damaged finish. If a wheel has been etched by acid cleaners or the lacquer is lifting, coating it just seals that in. We will tell you honestly which of yours are worth doing.

Does it survive brake heat?

That is what separates a wheel coating from a paint coating. This one is formulated for the temperatures a wheel actually sees, which is why we do not simply use the paint product on them.

Can you coat the calipers too?

Ask when you book. Calipers see the most heat of anything on the corner of a car, so what is appropriate depends on the finish they have on them.

How long does it last?

Years on the barrel, less on the face, because the face gets washed and the barrel does not. Wheels that are cleaned with acid wheel cleaners will lose it much faster — so do not.
