Julington Creek

A long daily drive, on roads that are still being built.

This is a commuter district before it is anything else. What that means for paint is specific, and it is nearly all at the front of the vehicle.

CR-210 and I-95

Stone chips, in a straight line

A thirty to forty minute run each way at highway speed is the classic case for stone damage. It lands on the bumper, the leading edge of the hood, the mirrors and the A-pillars — and CR-210 has had construction traffic on it for years, which means loose stone.

Love bugs

Twice a year, and they are acidic

May and September, and this corridor gets them badly. Bug splatter is acidic and it etches clear coat within a day or two in the sun. The front of a commuter car here takes the whole load.

New construction

Sand, and lorries carrying it

St Johns County is still being built out. Fill sand on the road and dust off the sites both end up on the same front end that is already collecting stones.

Driveways in the open

Sun, and sprinklers

Newer developments mean little mature tree cover and heavy lawn irrigation. High UV load, and mineral-rich overspray that dries into spots.

Getting here

North, then east on Butler.

You are already doing a version of this drive every morning, which makes it an easy one to add to.

01

North on I-95 or San Jose

Whichever you normally take. I-95 is quicker unless it is not, and you already know which.

02

East on JTB

Butler Boulevard eastbound through the Southside, then north on St Johns Bluff Road.

03

Building 400, into the bay

The car goes straight inside — which after a run up 95 in May is not a small thing.

Thirty minutes, and the front of the car stops being a consumable. Mon–Fri 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM, Saturday 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM, closed Sunday.

Stone damage is not reversible.

Swirls polish out. Chips do not — a chip is missing paint, and the only real fix is a respray. Film is the only thing that prevents them.

01

Film the panels the road reaches

  • Bumper, hood edge, mirrors, A-pillars
  • Computer-cut for your exact year, make and model
  • Self-healing topcoat on light scratches
  • Ten-year XPEL warranty on a certified install
02

Keep the bug seasons under control

  • Two indoor washes a month on any plan
  • Bug and tar removal as part of every visit
  • Acid off before it has a week in the sun
  • Geex Lite from $79 a month
03

It is a resale argument too

  • Film comes off cleanly years later
  • The paint underneath is the paint that left the factory
  • Service history logged to Carfax
  • Members get priority on scheduling

Questions from Julington Creek

What commuters ask.

If yours is not here, call the shop on 904-574-4339.

I already have chips in the bumper. Is film still worth it?

Yes, for everything that has not been hit yet — but be clear about what it does. Film prevents new chips; it does not repair old ones, and it will not hide them. If the existing damage bothers you, that is a paint conversation before it is a film conversation.

Partial front or full front?

Depends on the miles and the car. A partial front covers where stones actually land on most commutes. A full front covers the whole hood and fenders and removes the visible line across the hood, which on a dark car some people care about a lot. We quote both from the car.

Do love bugs really damage paint or is that a myth?

They genuinely do. The residue is acidic, and in Florida heat it starts etching clear coat within a couple of days. The myth is that they are impossible to remove — they are easy, if you get to them before that.

Will film stop bug damage as well as stones?

It takes the damage instead of your paint, which is the point. Film is far more chemically resistant than clear coat, and it is replaceable. Paint is not.

My car is a lease. Does any of this make sense?

Film often does, and for a reason people miss: it comes off cleanly at the end, and the panels underneath are unmarked at handback. Whether that beats the cost depends on your lease terms, and we are happy to say when we think it does not.

Do you come out to St Johns?

No. Film has to be fitted in a sealed, climate-controlled room — a single piece of grit under it is there permanently. Thirty minutes each way is the trade for an install that lasts ten years.
