Auto Detailing & Paint Protection in St. Augustine, FL

The oldest city in the country is hard on paint.

Coquina dust, salt off the inlet, and streets laid out for horses. Detail Geex is about forty minutes north — a sealed, climate-controlled bay, which is the one thing no garage in the old town has.

St. Augustine

Old streets, and a shell that gets into everything.

St. Augustine is not a beach town with a historic district bolted onto it — it is a historic city that happens to sit on an inlet. Both halves are working on your paint.

Downtown

Coquina, and streets built for carts

The old town is coquina and brick, and coquina is shell. It powders, it blows, and it is abrasive in a way ordinary road grit is not — which matters the moment a wash mitt drags it across a panel. The streets are also narrow enough that parallel parking here is a negotiation with a curb.

The inlet

Salt, with less wind to carry it off

Matanzas Bay puts salt in the air across most of the peninsula. Inland of the oceanfront there is less breeze to move it on again, so it settles and sits — overnight, on a car parked on the street, every night.

Tourist season

Door dings, nose to tail

Several million visitors a year park in the same few blocks you do. Tight municipal lots and curbside bays are where door edges and bumper corners go, and rarely to somebody who leaves a note.

Anastasia Island

Sun with nothing in the way

Across the Bridge of Lions the tree cover thins and the UV load climbs. Reds and blacks fade first, and unprotected trim goes chalky inside a couple of seasons.

Getting here

Straight up 95, then east.

It is a highway run rather than a town drive, so it goes quicker than the distance suggests outside of rush hour.

01

I-95 north from St. Augustine

From SR-16 or International Golf Parkway, north past Nocatee and Bayard. Half the drive is this one road.

02

East on JTB, then St Johns Bluff

Exit onto Butler Boulevard eastbound, then north on St Johns Bluff Road. If you reach Southside Boulevard you have overshot the turn.

03

Building 400, straight into the bay

The car goes inside on arrival. Nothing waits on a forecourt collecting dust before its slot.

Forty minutes each way is a real commitment, so we book St. Augustine cars in for the work that justifies it and say so plainly when a job does not. Mon–Fri 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM, Saturday 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM, closed Sunday.

If the car makes the drive

Make it worth the trip.

One visit that does correction, film and a coating together beats three separate runs up I-95 — and the paint only has to be prepped once.

01

Plan it as one visit

  • Correction, film and coating in a single booking
  • Multi-day jobs stay inside for the whole job
  • A real timeline before anything starts
  • One drive rather than three
02

Built for a car that lives outside

  • A sealant rather than a spray wax on Geex Standard
  • Bug and tar removal as part of the visit
  • Wheel barrels cleaned, not just the faces
  • Service history logged to Carfax
03

Worth it on a car you are keeping

  • Film is a ten-year product, not a season
  • Coatings hold up for years, not months
  • Members get priority on scheduling
  • Geex Lite from $79 a month

Questions from St. Augustine

What people ask before making the drive.

If yours is not here, call the shop on 904-574-4339.

Is it worth driving forty minutes for this?

For a wash, no — and we will tell you that. For film, a coating or correction, yes, because those are multi-year jobs that have to be done in a sealed room, and there is no version of them that works in a driveway. Most St. Augustine cars come up once and are set for years.

Do you come to St. Augustine?

No. Film and coatings cannot be applied properly outdoors — airborne grit, humidity and a single piece of shell dust under film are all permanent problems. Everything happens in the bay.

What does coquina actually do to paint?

It is crushed shell, so it is abrasive. Sitting on a panel it does nothing. Dragged across the panel by a sponge or an automatic brush it puts fine scratches into the clear coat — which is what most of the swirl marks on a car here really are.

My car is garaged in the old town. Do I still need this?

Less urgently, and that is a fair answer. A garaged car is protected by the garage. What it is not protected from is the driving and the parking, and in a town this tight that is where most of the damage happens — door edges, bumper corners, curbed wheels.

Can you fix one panel rather than the whole car?

Yes. Spot correction is $175 to $325 a panel and is often the smarter buy when it is one door or one fender bothering you.

How long will you have my car?

A partial front in film is usually a day. Full front is longer, and a full body is several days — particularly if the paint is corrected first, which it usually should be. You get the timeline from the car, before it is booked.
