Selva Marina and the older streets north of Atlantic Boulevard have a canopy the rest of the Beaches does not. It keeps the car cooler and it drops three things on it that open parking never would.
It etches, and it does not wipe off
Tree sap is acidic and it does not sit politely on the surface. Left through a Florida summer it works into the clear coat and leaves a mark that outlasts the sap itself. Picking at it with a fingernail or a dry towel makes a scratch instead of a stain. It needs dissolving, not scraping.
Damp organic matter against paint
Pollen loads up in spring and leaf litter collects in the cowl, the sunroof channels and the boot shuts year round. Wet, packed organic material against a painted edge is how corrosion starts on a car that otherwise looks immaculate from ten feet away.

Parking under a canopy means parking under birds. Droppings are strongly acidic and in direct Florida sun they can mark a clear coat within a day. This is the single most common reason a well-kept Atlantic Beach car ends up needing a corrected panel.

Getting here
Twenty minutes, and two ways to do it.
From north of the boulevard, Mayport Road down to Atlantic is usually cleaner than cutting through the neighborhood.
Down to Atlantic Boulevard
From Selva Marina or Mayport Road, drop south and pick up Atlantic heading west. It is the fastest of the options at almost any hour.
West over the Intracoastal
Straight across the bridge and keep going. You will pass Girvin and Kernan before the turn you want.
North on St Johns Bluff, Building 400
Right turn, then the bay doors. The car goes straight in rather than waiting outside under whatever is above it.

Bird mess has left a mark. Can it be fixed?
Usually. If it has etched the clear coat but not gone through it, machine polishing removes it. One or two panels is spot correction at $175 to $325 a panel. Bring it in sooner rather than later — etching gets deeper the longer it sits in the sun.
Will a ceramic coating stop sap damaging the paint?
It stops the sap reaching the paint, which is the part that matters. The sap lands on the coating and comes off in a wash instead of bonding to your clear coat. It still needs removing — a coating buys you time, not immunity. See ceramic coating packages.
Should I just stop parking under the trees?
If you have the option, it is the cheapest protection available. Most people here do not, which is why the canopy is worth planning around rather than ignoring: a coating, film on the roof and hood, and getting things off the car quickly.
What is the difference between spot correction and full correction?
Spot correction treats specific panels and is priced per panel. Full correction works the whole car to a consistent finish. If it is one bad week under a tree, spot correction is almost always the right answer and we will say so.
Does the shade at least help with UV fade?
It genuinely does. A car under a canopy fades slower than one in an open lot at the Beaches. The trade is what falls on it — which is why the two ends of the Beaches need different things from us.
Do you handle convertibles and soft tops?
Yes. A soft top under trees is a particular problem, because sap and droppings soak into fabric rather than sitting on it. It needs its own products and its own protection. Mention it when you book so we allow the time.
